Classic Cocktails You Should Try at Least Once

Some cocktails have been around for decades and are still classics. Bill’s Package Store thinks you should try some of these classic cocktails at least once in your life.

 

The Manhattan Classic-Cocktails-Bills-Package-Store

  • This classic cocktail started at the Manhattan Club in New York City circa 1880’s.
  • Ingredients:
    • Bourbon* or rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, Angostura bitters or orange bitters.
  • Recipe:
    • Ice
    • 2 ounces rye whiskey
    • 1 ounce Carpano Antica Formula or other sweet vermouth
    • 2 dashes of bitters (Angostura or orange)
    • 1 maraschino cherry, for garnish

*Bill’s Package Store suggests using Jim Beam Bourbon.

 

Mai Tai

  • “Mai Tai” in Tahitian means “good” or “the best”
  • There are a lot of different ways to make this drink. You might have seen it served in all colors.
  • Ingredients:
    • Rum*, lime juice, rock candy syrup, almond syrup, orange curacao, and garnished with mint sprig and lime rind.
  • Recipe:
    • 1.5 oz white rum
    • 3/4 oz orange curaçao
    • 3/4 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed
    • 0.5 oz orgeat
    • 0.5 oz dark rum
    • Garnish: lime wheel
    • Garnish: mint sprig

Old Fashioned

  • This classic favorite has been around since 1806 and was described as a drink that included a spirit with sugar, bitters, and water.
  • It was ranked by world’s best bartenders as their to best selling cocktail of 2022.
  • Ingredients:
    • Rye* or bourbon, sugar, angostura bitters, orange slice and twist.
  • Recipe:
    • 1 tsp sugar
    • 3 dashes Angostura bitters
    • 1 tsp water
    • 2 oz rye whiskey or bourbon*
    • Garnish: orange twist

White Russian

  • This drink debuted in the 1960’s and was derived from the “Black Russian”, which consisted of vodka and Kahlua.
  • Someone decided to add cream to the drink, thus calling it a “White Russian”.
  • Ingredients:
    • Vodka*, Kahlua, heavy cream.
  • Recipe:
    • 2 oz vodka*
    • 1 oz Kahlúa
    • 1 splash heavy cream

Mojito

  • This is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages in the books and originated back in the 18th century in Cuba.
  • It was Ernest Hemingway’s favorite cocktail.
  • Ingredients:
    • White rum*, simple syrup, club soda, fresh lime juice, mint leaves.
  • Recipe:
    • 3 mint leaves
    • 1/2 oz simple syrup
    • 2 oz white rum*
    • 3/4 oz lime juice, freshly squeezed
    • Club soda, to top
    • Garnish: mint sprig and/or lime wheel
